We went camping.
Yes you read correctly.
Camping in november ...and in Normandy.
A great idea of mine...
But there is camping and Camping.
Our way of camping was closer to experiencing Laura Ingalls "The little house on the Prairie" than this kind of camping [ although I loved the movie].
It is a "new" concept directly imported by the Netherland and the UK. It is called "Un lit au pre" in French. So far only place opens in France. Which happens to be in Normandy. More sites will be open in 2009.
There are many great pictures on their website but we took our own.
And i am about to share them with you.
Double click one pictures to see them bigger.
Just keep in mind that as, in Laura Ingalls story :: there was no electricity, running tap water but only really cold. Thanksfully the restroom were "a 20th version" as in "flush toilet" but disguised in trapper style [wooden cover and lid]. No fridge or coolbag, no electricity but a cool chest... to keep the food. Also, the farm [an organic one!!!] offers a "cellar" [or "honesty shop" :: since you keep track of your own purchases and pay at the end of your stay] where you go and get food from their crop, eggs from their hen house, and milk from their cows.
All in all quite an experience!
A great one were the family bonds together so naturally. Everything went smoothier than at home [as in mealtime with NO tantrums and especially bedtime with NO crying or more tantrums].
Lots of fire in the wooden stove [the only way to stay warm, get hot water for tea, cooking, doing dishes, or washing your body & hair]. We used up more candles that we probably do in 6 months at home!
The weather was on our side when we arrived on Friday afternoon :: no rain. Thank you thank you! Because to bring your luggages to the tent you need to use a ... wheelbarrow. So far so good...until we came across that HUGE fields of sheer mud. Sticky and smelly :: this is actually the cows..trail... Hum!
Each and every time the girls got carried in the wheel barrow to go to and from the car/tent/cellar.
MORNINGS :: the girls were up EARLY [sometimes beating the rooster and rising before its "cocorico'...]. Peter was the first one to get up to get the fire started before the girls were allowed to step out of their fairly warm bed.
The girls sleeping in the so wonderful Canopy Bed [ a cabana type wooden bed]
OUR DAYS :: between farmlife and beachtime on Omaha Beach...
OUR EVENINGS :: same quiet rythm :starting the fire to warm up the place and get dinner going. Evening made of game board playing, guitar playing, knitting and very little reading {not so easy to read at candle light...}

Such beautiful photos! What an amazing place, it sounds like you had a wonderful time.
